With Victoria experiencing a COVID outbreak, what implications are there for freight.
THE Australian Logistics Council has urged state governments ensure the smooth movement of freight during the latest COVID outbreak.
This follows the Victorian government moving to lock down that state following a number of infections in Melbourne’s northern suburbs.
In a statement, the ALC said Australian governments needed to adhere to the Domestic Border Control Freight Movement Protocol which says state and territory authorities “should consult with other relevant governments, regulators and with industry in relation to border controls at shared borders to ensure that requirements are communicated and understood”.
ALC interim chief executive Rachel Smith said the removal of restrictions on freight movements had enabled significant community amenity during this time, ensuring essential goods including groceries and medical supplies.
“ALC continues to work with governments to permanently remove these restrictions, as the supply chain has proved to be integral to the evolving needs to the communities they serve,” Smith said.
“Australia’s supply chain is the unsung hero of the pandemic.
“Our thoughts are with the Victorian community as they prepare for the week ahead and our hope is they stay safe and well during this time.”
