Paul Fletcher got a closer look at the South Dynon freight terminal, an operation crucial for the movement of interstate freight.
PACIFIC National chief financial officer Simon Atkinson has host federal urban infrastructure minister Paul Fletcher at the company’s Melbourne Freight Terminal, South Dynon.
According to PN, hundreds of thousands of cargo containers are processed through the MFT each year, notably via 1,500-metre interstate freight trains providing haulage services from Melbourne to Adelaide and beyond to Perth.
Each interstate freight train transports hundreds of containers – helping cut traffic congestion, improve road safety, and lower carbon emissions.
Urban intermodal terminals act as ‘pressure valves’ along busy supply chains – helping unclog freight bottlenecks, building capacity and resilience in rail networks, and shifting more freight from road to rail.
“PN congratulates the Australian government for committing $2 billion in last week’s budget to help develop a new intermodal terminal in Melbourne to enhance future productivity in the country’s freight network,” Atkinson said.
“We look forward to continuing to work closely with the Australian and Victorian governments in the next steps of this exciting initiative.”
